Did you know that one in every three individuals has high blood pressure? Australians are being encouraged to see their local doctor or pharmacist to ensure they are not in danger of a stroke.
.
High blood pressure, often known as hypertension, is the leading risk factor for stroke, accounting for 25,000 fatalities each year.
.
Unfortunately, just one-third of those who have been diagnosed with high blood pressure have it controlled. Reducing excessive blood pressure by one-quarter might save 37,000 lives.
.
A normal blood pressure reading is about 120 over 80mmHg, however, 140 over 90mmHg is considered high blood pressure and increases the risk of stroke, regardless of age.
.
Please request a blood pressure check the next time you visit your pharmacy or a doctor; the Stroke Foundation needs these values reduced!
