Yesterday was World Kidney Day, which was dedicated to raising awareness about the importance of kidneys in maintaining bodily function and the consequences of renal illness.
.
St Vincent’s Hospital in Melbourne cares for over 300 renal dialysis patients. Their institution has done almost 50 kidney transplants in the last two years.
.
Kristy Luong was told she had long-term kidney problems when she was a teenager. At age 22, she was told her kidneys were failing and that she needed to start dialysis and wait for a replacement.
.
Four years later, she got a life-changing call from St. Vincent’s: a donor match was identified.
.
Kristy’s touching story can be found at https://www.svhm.org.au/newsroom/news/a-donor-kidney-gives-patient-a-chance-to-be-a-mother . What a fantastic tale!čî┐
