When Francisco Javier Aguayo set the Thanksgiving table with his mother in 2019, he had no way of knowing how much life would soon change. What started as a simple mention of stomach pain became a devastating diagnosis: gallbladder cancer. Nine months later, Francisco lost his mother — the heart of their family, their connector, their source of joy.

Just six months after her passing, another crisis struck. His father’s kidneys were failing, functioning at just 5%. Francisco, now facing the possibility of losing his second parent, refused to let that happen.
