In 2007, a 53-year-old woman who died from a stroke generously became an organ donor, and surgeons transplanted her kidneys, lungs, liver, and heart into five separate recipients.

At the time, standard medical tests found no sign of cancer in her system — she seemed a good candidate for donation.
