Thanks to a wonderful person and their family who agreed to organ donation, Aarron is thriving and is in his sixth and final year at high school – almost 9 years after his liver transplant.
His mum Jacqueline says:
“These are days that at some points we never thought we would see. My precious boy Aarron Higgins thriving and into his sixth year at high school and loving every minute .
Aarron has Alagilles Syndrome and has been ill his whole life enduring 42 surgeries including a life saving liver transplant in 2016.
Aarron has battled back from the brink so many times and has had another tough year this year finding it hard to recover from pneumonia , pluracy and recent dental surgery . It has been a long road to recovery but it hasn’t stopped him . He has completed the Duke of Edinburgh Silver award and is going on to do the Gold this coming year. He has also completed national 4 and 5 in his exams . He is going to college one day per week doing sound engineering/production and photography. He hopes to go on this course full time when he leaves school . All of this while living with osteoporosis and what seems like never ending surgery . He just makes me burst with pride and I’m in awe of what an amazing spirit he has and he has the heart of a lion.
If it wasn’t for organ donation and a family making the bravest decision at the most heartbreaking time I would not have this healthy boy today. While being immune suppressed does have its own challenges having him here trying to live his best life makes the alternative unthinkable and will be eternally grateful to his donor family .
With help from the amazing Parkill High school this boy is going to flourish and grow up to be the most amazing young man and I know he will have every chance of doing amazing things.
