Please meet Clarke who speaks openly and honestly about how organ donation has touched his life and how it has changed his life on so many different levels.
“I’m Clarke, and in October 2017 I had a kidney transplant after my kidneys failed in 2015. ( I really am one of the lucky ones to wait such a short time period ).
From my kidneys failing to transplant I underwent dialysis treatment which I found so hard. To get through it all my mind had to be the strongest it’s ever been as my body just hated it, every single waking moment.
I went through depression through this time but I knew it was possible to come out the other side and live a better life. I had some demons also to cope with including smoking cigarettes and moderate intake of alcohol.
The only way I coped was when waking each morning I would say “I’m alive another day today”, plus I also have my little son who never lets me down and is always there for me.
I am forever grateful and appreciative to the family of my donor who gifted me life and for agreeing to donation, and what that means to recipients such as I. Also am grateful to my family and loved ones who are alongside you as you go through the pain and unknown of the future ahead as you wait for a transplant.
The transplant surgeons had major trouble getting the top part of the plumbing connected, and had to cut this down to such a short piece that it was almost impossible to connect . However, thanks to their expertise and dedication they did manage it and now my creatinine levels, although are still high which still gets me tired sometimes, it’s been stable for three years now and I’m so lucky.
