Pakistan has achieved its first successful corneal transplant from a female donor, marking a major milestone in the country’s medical history. The procedure was conducted at the Armed Forces Institute of Ophthalmology (AFIO) in Rawalpindi, where surgeons restored sight to two soldiers injured in counter-terrorism operations.

The corneas were donated by the late wife of Major General (Retd) Zafar Mehdi Askari, fulfilling her wish to contribute to medical service. The recipients, Aliullah (30) and Falak Sher (26), regained their vision following the transplant, which highlights growing awareness around organ donation in Pakistan.
