Pakistan Achieves Historic First: Female Donor’s Cornea Restores Sight to Two Soldiers

Pakistan has marked a major medical milestone with its first successful corneal transplant using a female donor’s cornea. The procedure successfully restored the vision of two soldiers who were injured during counterterrorism operations.

The surgeries were performed at the Armed Forces Institute of Ophthalmology (AFIO). The corneas were donated as per the will of the late wife of Major General (Retd) Zafar Mehdi Askari.

The two soldiers who regained their eyesight after the procedure are Aliullah (30) and Falak Sher (26).

This historic medical achievement highlights both the bravery of the soldiers and the life-changing, positive impact of organ donation within the country’s healthcare system.
