My new kidney is doing absolutely AMAZING! I’m beyond grateful — my GFR is 105 and my creatinine is 0.74. I don’t think I’ve ever had numbers like these in my entire life!

My biopsy came back perfect, and all of my labs are too. The only ongoing issue is that my magnesium refuses to stay above critically low levels, no matter how many bags I get each week. I’m also dealing with tendon pain and extreme muscle weakness from one of the antibiotics, which makes walking tough some days. My team is working so hard to find where the magnesium loss is happening — it’s a delicate balance to adjust medications after a second transplant since the risk of rejection is higher, but they’re keeping a very close eye on me.

What keeps me going is knowing that these hurdles are temporary. Every time I see my kidney numbers, I’m reminded of how far I’ve come — and that soon, I’ll truly be able to enjoy this beautiful new lease on life with my amazing kidney.
