Yes, that is my organ donor card. I’ve joined the UK Organ Donor Register.

My decision was motivated by the story of a young woman who needed, and received, a heart transplant: @teyb05.

In the UK, many people die while waiting for an organ transplant. There simply aren’t enough donors. Organs are only used in very specific circumstances, and only after two doctors independently confirm that life cannot be saved.

If something terrifying were ever to happen to me, I would have no further need for my organs, but someone else might. I would rather they be used to save a life than be lost.

I’d encourage anyone reading this to learn more about organ donation and consider joining the register.
