I had the pleasure of interviewing @tamikad_smith for the latest story in my series “On Borrowed Time.” She shared with me her harrowing experience navigating chronic disease as a Black woman and constantly being gaslit by health care providers. 🩺⚕️

When folks are asked if they want to be a registered organ donor — the response often boils down to their level of trust in the health care system. Tamika, like many other Black women, has been consistently mistreat by a health care system that is supposed to treat and heal. ❤️‍🩹

“I’ve never had a relationship with a man where somebody just dogged me out and dragged me through the mud or left me on the highway. I’ve dealt with that in the health care system,” Tamika says. “What women say about how men treat them, it’s the same with the health care system. It’s toxic.”
