OFFICIALLY LISTED!!!
We got a phone call from the lung transplant coordinator that I am officially on the UNOS lung transplant list! It is such a strange feeling that there could be a donor at anytime; hours, days, weeks, or even months.
“Am I really prepared for this???”
Is the question I keep asking myself.
I started this journey at the end of last November with very little hope. I realize how far I’ve come but of course there are far more things to endure.

One thing was my CAS which is the Composite Allocation Score. This is the scoring system they use for lung transplants. In adults, the max score is 50, compared to pediatrics which is 100. My score was around 17 which was lower than we’d hoped. This is based on very many factors. A main factor is the person’s chance of survival post transplant. If you’re giving an organ to someone, you would want that person to live a long time to make the organ “worth it.” However, my case is very high risk and on top of that re-transplants have decreased survival rates. Despite of this, my team will try to write a letter of exception to increase my score because scoring systems are only based on key factors. A lot of people assume it’s only based on how sick you are, but there are so many other factors such as size, blood type, age, test results, etc.
I’m excited and grateful that I get to share this next part of my journey with you guys as I wait for new lungs and eventually get a transplant 🫁💕
