Clare’s 18-year-old daughter Leah sadly passed away two years ago and donated her organs to those in need.

Just six months after her eldest daughter passed away, her youngest daughter Isabella needed a heart valve replacement and received a donated heart valve.

Clare has therefore experienced both sides of Organ Donation by both offering and receiving, and shares her story eloquently with us today:

“My beautiful daughter Leah, who had just turned 18, passed away at Broomfield Hospital in the intensive care unit in July 2023 following an epileptic seizure.

Leah had only been diagnosed with epilepsy about 2 years previously. She suffered from absences which progressed into tonic clonic seizures. Despite trying different types of medication, nothing seemed to work for her, but she absolutely did not let epilepsy stop her or hold her back in anyway. Leah was brave in that sense, she was never nervous about going out in case she had a seizure. She just carried on as normal.

Leah was as beautiful on the inside as she was on the outside. She was kind and gentle, warm and funny and was adored by everyone who knew her. She was incredibly special. She played the piano and was brilliant at singing, dancing and acting. She played lead roles in her theatre group and was awarded student of the year.

Leah had just completed two years at Chelmsford college studying beauty and had landed her first full time job with the skincare brand, Elemis. She was doing amazing there and had been mentioned on the company’s nationwide newsletter for smashing her targets, despite only being employed for a matter of weeks.

The week before Leah passed away, she was living her best life on holiday with her two older brothers, Jay and Luke, in Cyprus. I have so many photographs and videos of the three of them from that holiday, swimming, quad biking, dancing and just having the most fabulous time.

And the weekend before Leah passed away, she and her boyfriend drove down to the Kent coast, found a carpark on the edge of the beach and slept in the car for the night. She sent me photographs of the sunset.
