After battling the rare autoimmune disorder Goodpasture syndrome for 20 years, Colorado man Scott Lee received what he calls a “Christmas miracle” just hours before death.

With his organs failing and a chaplain already on the phone, Lee was saved by a kidney transplant made possible through the National Kidney Registry.

A friend’s selfless donation triggered a donor chain that gave Lee a second chance at life. Now recovering, he’s grateful to watch his granddaughters grow up.
