9 years ago Sam sadly passed away. Her husband David speaks very movingly about his beloved wife Sam and the lives she saved through organ donation.

“In 2023 I sailed our boat into Wells Next the Sea. Wells is a special place as it is a difficult place to sail into, but was a destination port where Sam and I first undertook a long overnight passage on our own and where we started to stretch ourself and have proper adventures.

Sam was often the instigator of these, and whilst she cannot have any more adventures there are 5 people alive today who can.

Life is fragile but there to be enjoyed.

I hope the people who received Sam’s organs can enjoy their own adventures and fulfil their dreams. I wish them all well.

In the past we had discussed organ donation, with me often joking that I wanted to go to my grave ‘fully assembled’. My wife had said that organ donation did much good but neither of us had signed up to the organ donation register. I asked for my wife’s organs to be donated.

Both the hospital and transplant team could not have been more caring and supportive, and it is of great comfort to me that my wife’s organs have given people a chance of a better life.

My wife was such a loving and giving person, and having a rare blood group has made her even more special. I have now signed the organ donation register.”

Be like Sam and be a Hero.
