14 years ago today — 11/11/11.
Katy’s lung function was 11%. She weighed 79 lbs. She was on oxygen 24 hours a day.
We were 6 and a half months into waiting for a double lung transplant.
Her doctors told her to look out of state because they didn’t think she had much time left.
And then, at 11:11 PM, the phone rang.
“Your lungs are here.”
We rushed to the hospital.
This photo was taken moments before she went into the operating room.
That night, a family made the most selfless decision a person can make — and because of them, Katy got to keep going. Those lungs didn’t last forever… but they gave us something priceless.
They became the bridge to the lungs she would receive later.
They became the bridge to our marriage.
They became the bridge to Riley.
They became the bridge to a life that still ripples love into the world today.
God is good.
If you’re not already an organ donor, please consider it.
The impact you can make after your time here is eternal.
Someone’s entire world might be waiting for that call.
Katy – We love you.
You are the strongest person we know.
And because of you, Riley has the most incredible role model guiding her every day – and so do we. ❤️
