10 years ago Cathy’s precious son Alfie suffered a fatal brain haemorrhage.

Cathy bravely shares how her SuperHero son Alfie saved many lives and enabled more memories to be made in the lives of the people Alfie saved through his Gifts of Life. 💙

“Our son Alfie passed away very suddenly in December 2015. His death was so unexpected and tragic.

Alfie complained of a bad headache in the morning and wasn’t well all day but I thought it was a simple virus and I treated him with calpol which seemed to help him. However by teatime our precious boy had collapsed and was unconscious.

Alfie had suffered a catastrophic brain haemorrhage which we found out after an emergency operation in Leeds General infirmary. The brain bleed was so severe it was incompatible with survival (the surgeons words in Alfie’s hospital notes).

Our precious youngest son and our Todd’s little brother was declared brain stem dead which left us completely desolate.

The organ donation nurses spoke to us about organ donation. Obviously this had never crossed our minds and certainly not with regard to our children anyway.

We finally agreed as we felt nothing about our son’s tragic death made any sense but donating his organs gave us small comfort knowing parts of him would “live” on in others.

The nurses were kind, compassionate and professional and talked us through the whole process.

Our precious superhero son donated his heart, lungs, kidneys and liver which were transplanted into 5 very lucky people. They were given a second chance at life through our Alfie’s special gifts.

Alfie was 9 and a very important half when he lost his sweet life.
